The Credit Union Difference

We are a not-for-profit, member-owned financial cooperative. We offer a better value to our members because we don’t create fees to make a profit for stockholders. Coloramo started in Grand Junction and is owned by its members, most of whom live and work here today!

Meet Our Team!

What is the history of COLOramo?

Coloramo is NOT a typo! It is an acronym for the Colorado Raw Materials Office. Have you heard of the Manhattan Project? How about the 2023 hit movie “Oppenheimer”? During the Manhattan Project, Grand Junction played a key role as a center for uranium processing and procurement. In fact, our region became one of the primary domestic sources of uranium used in the Manhattan Project. A group of these Department of Energy employees working in the Atomic Energy Commission Compound during WWII founded Coloramo in 1953. They were members of the “Coloramo Social Club”, hence, our name!

Coloramo was founded in June 1953 here in Grand Junction by that group of men working for the Department of Energy. Up until 2002, we served only federal agency employees and select employee groups. At that point, we applied to convert to a Community Charter and were able to serve all Mesa County residents. In 2018, we expanded our Charter to include Delta and Montrose Counties. In 2020, we expanded our Charter once again to include Gunnison, Ouray, Garfield, Rio Blanco, and Moffat Counties.
