There is a phishing scam
happening in our local area and it has already incurred victims from
US Bank, Western Rockies Federal Credit Union, Sooper Credit Union
and Great American Community Credit Union. We just want you to be
aware and to not fall for their attempt to convince you to divulge
your personal information (account numbers, passwords, PINs, SSNs,
etc).
A
phishing scam is where you receive an e-mail from someone and
they are pretending to be your financial institution. They ask
you to click on the link in their e-mail and confirm your
identity to protect you from identity theft. The link does not
go to the real website. It is redirecting you to a false site
that they made to look exactly like the real one. Don't fall
for this!
Another way to know if you are being redirected to a different
website is to mouse over the link where they want you to click.
Don't click on it, just move your cursor over the place where
they want you to click. In the bottom lefthand side of your
screen, just above the Start button (if you're Windows) you will
see where the link will take you. If it's a phishing scam, it
will look like you're going to Coloramo's website, but if you
look in the bottom lefthand side, you'll notice it won't say
www.coloramo.org.
Coloramo Federal
Credit Union will NEVER e-mail you and ask you to go to a
website to enter any personal information.
If
you do receive such an e-mail pretending to be Coloramo,
contact us by using a phone number from the phone book, not from
the e-mail you've received.
It
is currently happening in the Grand Junction area at other local
credit unions.
